We treat our dogs as part of our family, so why not celebrate their birthdays too? Surprise them with our peanut butter dog birthday cake.

It is the perfect treat for any occasion, whether that be a birthday, welcome home, national dog day, or just because your dog deserves it.

Our dog birthday cake recipe is simple and quick to make. It is important to check the ingredients below and do not feed if your dog is allergic to any of them.

While peanut butter is very good for your dog and most love it, some brands contain xylitol (artificial sweetener) which is toxic for dogs. Only use peanut butter that is xylitol free.

We have been asked if humans can eat this cake as well, and the answer is YES! However, unlike a traditional cake, it lacks sugar, so just know it won’t be as sweet as your pet is.

HOW TO MAKE DOG FRIENDLY BIRTHDAY CAKES

This recipe makes 8 medium cakes or 12 small cakes. You can also combine the whole mixture to make one big birthday cake.

INGREDIENTS

FOR THE PUPCAKES

2 tablespoons peanut butter
2 tablespoons oil
1 medium mashed banana
2 tablespoons honey
1/2 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon baking powder

FOR THE FROSTING

1.5 medium mashed banana
2 tablespoons peanut butter

METHOD

Preheat your oven to 180 degrees celsius. Spray a muffin tray with cooking spray.
Stir together the peanut butter, oil, banana and honey.
In the same bowl, stir in the flour, baking soda and baking powder until combined.
Evenly distribute the mixture into the muffin tray. Put this in the oven and bake for 10-20 mins, until browned. Cool completely before frosting.
Frosting - stir the 2 tablespoons of peanut butter in with the mashed bananas. Frost the pupcakes with this mixture.

Serve immediately as the frosting will brown if sat for too long.
